Safe Caledonia Safety Case – Thorough Review process completed ahead of schedule

All UK offshore installations are required to complete a statutory Thorough Review of their approved Safety Case every five years. This regulatory requirement is essential to ensure that Safety Cases remain accurate and up to date in a world of continuous change. It is also a great opportunity for Duty Holders to review their most important risk management document and ensure that it is up to date.

CPOGS were delighted to support Prosafe by leading, managing and documenting the Safe Caledonia Thorough Review Process for 2026. The final report was forwarded to the UK Health and Safety Executive in late January. The Thorough Review exercise has confirmed that the Safety Case is ‘fit for purpose’ for the next five years of operations and no material updates are required.

The Safe Caledonia is the only semi-submersible accommodation vessel in the UK that we know of with upgraded lifeboats, liferafts and a Safety Case that fully complies with the new guidance OIS 1/2025 ‘Big Persons Offshore’. This is a tremendous achievement and demonstrates how using independent specialists can deliver value to our clients.

The Thorough Review process was completed ahead of schedule to allow the offshore crew and elected safety representatives onboard Safe Caledonia to participate fully in the review scope of work. The detailed knowledge of the crew is critical in identifying and capturing small changes linked to updated management procedures, and system / equipment upgrades.
